Europe
A compact continent of layered history, walkable cities and astonishing variety packed into short, easy distances.
Photography coming soonThe Overview
Europe is a relatively small continent that punches far above its size, with a density of history, art and distinct cultures unmatched anywhere. From the fjords of Norway to the beaches of the Mediterranean, and from the Atlantic coast of Portugal to the plains of Ukraine, it packs dozens of countries into a space crossable in a day or two. Centuries of art, architecture and ideas are preserved in its cities, while the countryside ranges from olive groves and vineyards to alpine meadows. Borders are often open and easily crossed, which makes multi-country journeys simple to customise around food, history or landscape.
Europe is famously easy to travel. A dense rail network links most cities, budget airlines connect the rest, and within the Schengen Area many borders disappear entirely. Summer brings long days and warm weather but also crowds and higher prices at the headline sights; late spring and early autumn are widely considered the sweet spot, with mild weather and thinner queues. Winter rewards those after Christmas markets, alpine skiing or quiet city breaks. English is widely spoken in tourist areas, and the compact distances mean a single trip can comfortably weave together several very different countries.

The landscapes travellers picture first — some cross borders, all worth building a trip around.
The Alps
Europe's great mountain heart spanning France to Austria — glaciers, lakes and storybook villages, world-class skiing in winter and hiking in summer.
Explore the regionTuscany
Rolling hills of cypress and vineyard around Florence and Siena — Renaissance art, hilltop towns and some of Italy's most celebrated food and wine.
Andalusia
Spain's sun-baked south, where Moorish palaces, flamenco, whitewashed villages and tapas culture meet in Seville, Granada and Córdoba.
Scottish Highlands
A dramatic land of lochs, glens and brooding mountains, scattered with castles and distilleries and edged by wild, empty coastline and islands.
The Greek Islands
Hundreds of sun-drenched islands in clear blue seas — whitewashed villages, ancient ruins, fishing harbours and the easygoing rhythm of Greek summer.
The Amalfi Coast
A ribbon of pastel towns clinging to cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea, with lemon groves, hairpin coastal roads and famously photogenic sea views.
