Overview

Denmark is the smallest and southernmost of the Nordic countries, bridging continental Europe and Scandinavia. It is a kingdom of islands (406 named, 74 inhabited), linked by bridges and ferries. Copenhagen, the capital, is a global design and gastronomy capital (Noma, Geranium), while the rest of the country offers Viking heritage, Renaissance castles, sandy beaches, and a lifestyle defined by the concept of hygge.

Geography & Climate

Denmark is low and flat (highest point: Møllehøj at 171 m), consisting of the Jutland peninsula and over 400 islands including Zealand, Funen, and Bornholm. The coasts are lined with dunes, fjords, and beaches. The climate is temperate oceanic: mild winters (0–5°C) and cool summers (15–22°C). Rain is frequent year-round but rarely heavy.
