Qabala

Qəbələ, Azerbaijan

Why visit Qabala?

Qabala (also spelled Qəbələ) is a city in north-central Azerbaijan's Sheki Region, situated in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus at about 800 m elevation. It is one of Azerbaijan's most popular domestic tourist destinations, known for its mountain scenery, adventure sports, and historical sites. The area was once the capital of Caucasian Albania, and the nearby ruins of Old Qabala (5 km off the main road) date back over 2,000 years.

The city has grown rapidly as a resort centre, with hotels, cable cars, and entertainment complexes springing up around the Tufandağ Winter-Summer Tourism Complex. Summers are warm (20–28°C), winters cold with heavy snow (−2 to 5°C). Qabala is a year-round destination: skiing in winter, hiking in summer.
