Why visit?

Imo State is a densely populated state in south-eastern Nigeria, the heartland of the Igbo people. Its capital, Owerri, is known for its clean streets, lively nightlife, and relaxed atmosphere — it is often called the "Entertainment Capital of the East." The state is named after the Imo River, which flows through its eastern border.

Imo is one of Nigeria's smallest states but one of its most urbanised, with Owerri, Orlu, and Okigwe as major cities. The state is known for its rich Igbo culture, including the Iriji (New Yam Festival), the Mmanwu masquerade traditions, and the famous Owerri nightlife. Agriculturally, the state produces yams, cassava, palm oil, and the much-prized Igbo ukwa (breadfruit).

The climate is tropical with a rainy season (April–October). The dry season (November–March) is the best time to visit. The state is safe and welcoming.
