Why visit Mgbidi?
Mgbidi is the headquarters of Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State and is counted among the state's oldest towns. It was formerly the headquarters of the wider Oru Local Government Area before that area was split into Oru West and Oru East in 1996 under the Abacha government. Mgbidi is bordered by Ibi-Asoegbe and Aji to the north, Amiri and Otulu to the east, Ozara to the west, and Oguta LGA and Awo-Omamma to the south. The town is made up of eleven constituent communities — Imeoha, Eziali, Umuekwe, Okwudor, Umuorji, Umuokpara, Umueshi, Umuabiahu, Uzinaumu, Ihitte and Ugbele — merged into six autonomous communities. The Awbana River rises in Mgbidi and flows into Oguta Lake as one of its tributaries.
