Why visit Loudi?

Loudi (娄底) is a prefecture-level city in central Hunan Province, located in the rolling hills between the Xiang River basin and the Xuefeng Mountains. Historically an agricultural and mining region, Loudi has developed into a manufacturing hub, particularly known for its steel industry and the production of plate glass. The area is also the birthplace of several notable Chinese historical figures, including Zeng Guofan, a leading statesman and military general of the late Qing Dynasty.

Loudi has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers (July average 29°C) and cool winters (January 5°C). The best time to visit is spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October). The surrounding countryside of Loudi is characterised by karst hills, caves, and traditional farming villages.
