Why visit Lira?
Lira is the main commercial and administrative centre of the Lango sub-region in north-central Uganda. Located approximately 260 km north of Kampala, the town serves as a major trading hub for the surrounding agricultural region, known for millet, sorghum, groundnuts, and cotton. Lira has a lively urban character and is the seat of Lira University.
The Langi people are the dominant ethnic group, and Luo (Lango) is the primary language alongside English. The town was affected by the LRA conflict but has since recovered and grown significantly.
