Why visit Moroto?

Moroto is the capital of the Karamoja sub-region in north-eastern Uganda, located at the foot of Mount Moroto. The town is the administrative and commercial centre of the Karamojong people, a semi-nomadic pastoralist ethnic group known for their distinctive cultural traditions, cattle-keeping, and body ornamentation. The Karamoja region is one of Uganda's most remote and culturally distinct areas.

Moroto sits in a dramatic landscape of rugged mountains and semi-arid plains. Mount Moroto dominates the skyline and provides a stunning backdrop. The Karamojong language (Ngakarimojong) is the primary local tongue.
