Kitgum

Northern, Uganda

Why visit Kitgum?

Kitgum is a historic town in the Acholi region of northern Uganda, located approximately 80 km north-east of Gulu near the South Sudan border. The town has a rich colonial and post-colonial history and was heavily affected by the LRA conflict. Since the return of peace, Kitgum has been recovering steadily and is now a quiet regional trading centre.

The Acholi people are the dominant ethnic group, and Luo (Acholi) is the primary language. The town has a relaxed atmosphere with a distinctly frontier feel given its proximity to South Sudan.
