Why visit Zhuoxi?

Zhuoxi (卓溪) is a remote mountain township in southern Hualien County, Taiwan, located in the southern Huatung Valley near the Taitung border. It is primarily home to the Bunun indigenous people and is known for its dramatic mountain scenery, hot springs, and traditional Bunun culture. The area is sparsely populated with small villages nestled in the valleys.

The climate is tropical to subtropical, depending on elevation. October to April are the best months. Roads are winding and remote.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Hualien Airport (HUN) is about 90 km north. A taxi takes about 1 hour 30 minutes and costs around NT$2,200–2,800.

By Train

The nearest TRA station is Yuli Station or Fuli Station on the east coast line. From these, taxis or buses travel east to Zhuoxi.

By Car / Road

Zhuoxi is accessible via County Road 67 and other rural roads branching from Provincial Highway 9. From Hualien City, drive south for about 1 hour 30 minutes.

A car or scooter is essential. The area is remote and public transport is limited.
