Veinticinco de Diciembre

San Pedro, Paraguay

Why visit Veinticinco de Diciembre?

Veinticinco de Diciembre is a district in San Pedro department, about 100 km from Asunción, named for 25 December 1842 — the date on which the declaration of independence first proclaimed on 15 May 1811 was formally read out in the capital. It was long a colony administered under San Estanislao until Law 396 of 7 September 1973 elevated it to an independent district. Early settlers were field workers, ranchers, and migrants from across Paraguay, joined by refugees who fled Germany, Turkey, and Spain during the World Wars. Known as the "Portal del Norte" (Gateway of the North), it is the first town travelers reach entering the rest of Paraguay's northern Oriental region.
