Why visit Antequera?

Antequera (also known as Colonia or Puerto Antequera) is a district and town in San Pedro department, on the left bank of the Paraguay River roughly 343 km from Asunción and about 3 km from the Jejuí River. It was founded in 1892 by brothers Juan Alberto and José Visitación López, and was recognized as a formal district in 1955. Its port has historically served as a loading point for river-shipped produce, and the local economy centers on orange and banana orchards alongside livestock raising.
