Chore

San Pedro, Paraguay

Why visit Chore?

Choré is a district in northern San Pedro department, about 230 km from Asunción. It takes its name from a cacique (indigenous chief), Juan Choré, whose people settled on the heights above the stream that still bears his name; organized colonization of the area began around 1967, and the district was formally created on 11 December 1981. It borders Lima and Resquín to the north (separated by the Río Jejuí Guazú), Aquino and San Estanislao to the south, Liberación and Guayaibí to the east, and San Pablo to the west, with a population of roughly 23,500 (2022 census). The district is agricultural, known for tobacco, soybean, cotton, and sesame production, and is locally nicknamed the "Capital of Medicinal Herbs."
