It is bordered by Santa Rosa del Aguaray to the north (across the Río Aguaray Guazú), Guayaibí and Choré to the south, Lima to the west, and separated from Canindeyú department by the Río Jejuí Guazú. Its roughly 22,000 residents work mainly in agriculture — mate, cotton, tobacco, sugarcane, cassava, sesame, soy, citrus, and other crops — and trade with the departmental capital, San Pedro de Ycuamandiyú.
