San Pedro, Paraguay

Why visit Guayaibi?

Guayaibí is a district in southern San Pedro department, on Route PY08 near km 141, bordered by Choré, San Estanislao, Itacurubí del Rosario, and Yrybucuá. It covers about 132,000 hectares and has a population of roughly 40,000. It takes its name from the guajayvi tree, common in Paraguay, under which travelers heading to the yerba mate groves once rested along the area's only road. The district was carved out of Choré and San Estanislao (Santaní) territory and formally elevated to district status on 10 September 1992, following sustained pressure from local colonists. Agriculture is the main economic activity, with banana and pineapple as the dominant crops.
