Why visit Makurdi?

Makurdi is the capital city of Benue State, straddling the Benue River in central Nigeria. It is a city of about 365,000 people (2016), serving as the administrative and political centre of the state. The city is known for the Makurdi Bridge, a major rail and road crossing that carries the main narrow-gauge railway line from Port Harcourt to the north and is a vital link between northern and southern Nigeria.

The city sits in a fertile agricultural region, living up to Benue State's reputation as the "Food Basket of the Nation." It is predominantly inhabited by the Tiv people, with Idoma, Igede, and Etulo minorities. Makurdi has a warm tropical climate with average temperatures around 32°C and occasional river flooding during the wet season. The city is laid-back and welcoming, with a strong sense of local culture.
