Yenagoa

Bayelsa, Nigeria

Why visit Yenagoa?

Yenagoa is the capital city of Bayelsa State, located on the Ekole River, a tributary of the Nun River. It is one of Nigeria's fastest-growing cities, having developed rapidly since Bayelsa State was created in 1996. The city is the political and administrative centre of the state and the cultural heartland of the Ijaw people.

Yenagoa has a tropical monsoon climate with very high rainfall. The city is built on a network of creeks and rivers, and water transport is an important part of daily life. The best time to visit is the dry season (November–March).
