Why visit Akassa?

Akassa is a coastal town at the southern tip of the Akassa Peninsula in Bayelsa State, on the Atlantic coast. It is a traditional Ijaw fishing community with beautiful beaches, mangroves, and a historic trading post. The town was an important slave trade and palm oil port during the colonial era.

Access is by boat only. The dry season (November–March) is the best time to visit.

The nearest airport is Port Harcourt International Airport (PHC), about 4 hrs by road and boat.

By Train

No passenger rail service.

By Car / Road

No road access. Travel by boat from Brass (1 hr) or Nembe (2 hrs).
