Nembe

Nembe is a historic Ijaw kingdom and town in southern Bayelsa State, situated on the Nembe River in the Niger Delta. It is the seat of the Amayanabo of Nembe, one of the most prominent traditional rulers in the Niger Delta. The Nembe Kingdom dates back several centuries and has a rich history of trade, warfare, and cultural achievement.

The town is reached primarily by boat. The dry season (November–March) is the best time to visit.

The nearest airport is Port Harcourt International Airport (PHC), about 3 hrs by road and boat.

By Train

No passenger rail service.

By Car / Road

Nembe is accessible by road from Yenagoa (2 hrs) and then by boat across the rivers. The road is partially paved.

Boats and motorcycle taxis are the main transport.
