Odi

Bayelsa, Nigeria

Why visit Odi?

Odi is a town in central Bayelsa State, situated on the Nun River, in Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA. It is a traditional Ijaw settlement, and is internationally known as the site of the November 1999 Odi massacre, in which the Nigerian military destroyed almost the entire town in a reprisal operation following the killing of police officers in the area — an event that remains a defining part of the town's modern history and of the wider Niger Delta resource-control movement.

The dry season (November–March) is the best time to visit.
