Why visit Taplejung?
Taplejung is the district headquarters of Taplejung District, located in the far north-eastern corner of Nepal at an elevation of about 1,800 m. It is the main settlement in the Kanchenjunga region and serves as the primary gateway for treks to Kanchenjunga Base Camp, the trail around the world's third-highest mountain. The town is small and traditional, surrounded by terraced fields and dense forests.
The climate is temperate with warm summers, a pronounced monsoon (June–September), and cold winters. The best trekking season is March–May and September–November. Winters can bring heavy snowfall.
