About Biratnagar
Biratnagar is the second-largest city in Nepal and the industrial capital of the eastern Terai region, serving as the economic hub of Koshi Province. Located near the Indian border in Morang District, the city has a population of over 240,000 and functions as a major gateway for trade between Nepal and India. Its name derives from the legendary King Birat of the Mahabharata epic, who is said to have ruled this area during the Pandavas' exile.
The city experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers (March–June), a monsoon season (June–September), and mild winters (October–February). The best time to visit is October through March when temperatures are pleasant. Biratnagar is laid out in a grid-like pattern centred around major chowks (intersections) including Traffic Chowk, Mahendra Chowk, and Pushpalal Chowk, with the main commercial avenue running north from the airport road.
