Why visit Basantapur?
Basantapur is a scenic municipality in Dhankuta District, perched on a ridge in the Mahabharata Range at an elevation of around 1,200 m. It is a traditional market town serving the surrounding farming villages and offers spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayan range from Kanchenjunga in the east to Everest and Langtang in the west. The town has a relaxed atmosphere and is known for its pleasant climate and friendly locals.
The climate is subtropical highland with warm summers, a monsoon from June to September, and cool winters. The best time to visit is September–November for clear skies and March–May for spring flowers.

By Plane
Biratnagar Airport (BIR) is the nearest airport, about 50 km south. A taxi takes about 2 hours and costs Rs 2000–3000.
By Train
No train service. The nearest railhead is Jogbani, India.
By Car / Road
Basantapur is on the ridge road connecting Dhankuta (25 km east) to Hile (15 km west). Buses from Biratnagar (via Dhankuta) run daily, taking about 3–4 hours.
The town is walkable. Taxis and shared jeeps connect to Dhankuta and Hile.
