Quatre Bornes, known as La Ville des Fleurs (the City of Flowers), is a town in the Plaines Wilhems District of Mauritius. It lies on the central plateau between Beau Bassin and Phoenix, about 15 km south of Port Louis. The town is a major shopping destination, famous for its large Monday market and its reputation as the flower centre of the island.

How to reach

Quatre Bornes is on the A1 motorway, about 15 km south of Port Louis and 5 km north of Curepipe. The Metro Express light rail connects the town with Port Louis, Rose Hill, and Curepipe. Buses run frequently from Port Louis (Victoria Square), Curepipe, and other towns.

The town centre is compact and walkable. Taxis are available. Buses connect the outlying neighbourhoods. The Metro Express station makes travel to Port Louis and Curepipe fast and convenient.

Food & Dining

The market is excellent for street food — try dholl puri, farata, gâteaux piments, and alouda. The town has several Indian, Chinese, and Creole restaurants along the main road.

Cafes & Nightlife

Fresh sugarcane juice and alouda are widely available. Several small cafés serve Mauritian coffee and tea. The Bagatelle Mall nearby has a broader range of dining and drinking options.

Places to Stay

Accommodation in Quatre Bornes is limited to a few small guesthouses and self-catering apartments (MUR 1,500–3,000 per night). The nearby Bagatelle area has a couple of business hotels. Most leisure visitors prefer to stay in Curepipe (5 km south) or the coastal resorts of Flic en Flac and Grand Baie.

What to buy

The Monday market is the main attraction, drawing shoppers from across the island. It sells everything: clothing, shoes, kitchenware, spices, vanilla, rum, fresh flowers, and local snacks. The town centre also has many independent boutiques.
