Kanoya (鹿屋) is a city in eastern Kagoshima Prefecture, located on the Osumi Peninsula. It is known for the Kanoya Air Base Museum, which displays aircraft and memorabilia from the Imperial Japanese Navy and the modern Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The city is also a center for agriculture and has access to scenic coastal areas. Spring and autumn are the best seasons.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Kagoshima Airport (KOJ) is about 1.5 hours west by car or bus.

By Train

Kanoya is not on the JR network. Buses from Kagoshima-Chuo Station take about 1.5 hours.

By Car / Road

Route 220 runs along the coast. From Kagoshima about 1.5 hours by car.

A car is essential. The air base museum is a short drive from the center.
