Satsumasendai (薩摩川内) is a city in northwestern Kagoshima Prefecture, located on the coast of the East China Sea. It is the third-largest city in Kagoshima Prefecture and serves as the gateway to the Koshikijima Islands and other offshore islands. The Sendai River runs through the city, and it has a historic castle area. Spring and autumn are the best seasons.

By Plane
Kagoshima Airport (KOJ) is about 1.5 hours south by car or bus.
By Train
Satsumasendai is on the JR Kagoshima Main Line and the Kyushu Shinkansen. From Kagoshima-Chuo Station, shinkansen trains take about 25 minutes (¥2,810 reserved). Local trains also available.
By Car / Road
The Kyushu Expressway passes through the area. From Kagoshima about 1 hour by car.
The city center is walkable. Buses connect the station to the port and castle area.
