Why visit Makurazaki?
Makurazaki (枕崎) is a fishing port city at the southern tip of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is one of Japan's most important ports for bonito (katsuo) fishing, and the city is famous for its katsuo-bushi (dried bonito flakes, a fundamental ingredient in dashi broth). The city has a working waterfront atmosphere and access to scenic coastline. Spring and autumn are the best seasons.
