Why visit Moresco?
Moresco is a small hilltop village in the province of Fermo, in the Valdaso (Aso valley), roughly 30 km northeast of Ascoli Piceno. It is first documented by name in 1083, and by 1146 it was held by a local count as its castle-lord; the castle later changed hands several times, passing back to the town of Fermo in 1248 after being seized by Emperor Frederick II, and being sold in 1266 to Lorenzo Tiepolo, then podestà of Fermo and future Doge of Venice. The village's most recognizable landmark is its medieval tower, roughly 25 metres tall and unusually many-sided (most commonly described as heptagonal), which stands within a compact set of triangular medieval defensive walls. Moresco is listed among "I Borghi più belli d'Italia," the association of Italy's most beautiful villages.
