Njardvik

Suðurnes, Iceland

Why visit Njardvik?

Njarðvík is a town on the Reykjanes Peninsula that, together with neighbouring Keflavík and the village of Hafnir, forms the municipality of Reykjanesbær, created when the three settlements voted to merge in 1994. Keflavík and Njarðvík were historically distinct fishing towns that gradually grew together through the latter half of the 20th century. Njarðvík's waterfront is home to the Víkingaheimar (Viking World) museum, which displays the Íslendingur, a full-scale replica Viking ship built by Gunnar Marel Eggertsson and sailed from Iceland to New York in 2000 to mark the 1000th anniversary of Leif Erikson's voyage.
