Gardur
Suðurnes, Iceland
Why visit Gardur?
Garður is a small fishing village at the northwestern tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula, where Faxaflói bay meets the open Atlantic at the Garðskagi headland. The village's name comes from the earthen boundary walls once built between local properties. Garðskagi is marked by two lighthouses: an 1897 lighthouse — Iceland's second-oldest concrete building, built deliberately low so its light could cut through the area's frequent sea mists — and a taller 1944 replacement built further inland to avoid erosion and spray-related visibility loss.
Climate

Ask on WhatsAppHow do you get there?
Gardur is reached by road from Reykjavik and the Keflavík area, at the northwestern tip of the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Walking is best for the compact village centre; a car is useful for reaching the Garðskagi headland just outside town.
What are the things to do?
The two Garðskagi lighthouses are the village's best-known landmark. Next to them, the Garðskagi Folk Museum displays fishing equipment and artifacts documenting the area's maritime history, and a nearby monument commemorates local fishermen's families.
Visiting the Garðskagi lighthouses and folk museum, and birdwatching along the headland, are the main activities in Gardur.
