About Thio

Thio is a commune on the east coast of Grande Terre, historically one of New Caledonia's most important nickel-mining centres. The town sits at the mouth of the Thio River, surrounded by steep, green mountains. While the nickel industry has declined, the area retains a rugged charm with coastal scenery and industrial heritage.
