Hienghène is about 320 km from Nouméa, a 4-hour drive via RT1 along the east coast road. Air Calédonie operates flights from Nouméa to Touho airport (30 km south), with taxi connections. Buses run from Nouméa a few times daily.
A car is essential for exploring the Hienghène area. The main attractions are spread along the coast and in the valleys. The town center is small and walkable.
