Why visit Mankush?

Mankush is a remote settlement in the Benshangul-Gumaz Region of western Ethiopia, located on the Blue Nile (Abay) River near the border with Sudan. Its position on the river gives it a frontier character, and it has been historically significant as a crossing and trading point on the Blue Nile. The surrounding lowlands are sparsely populated, with a hot climate and wooded savannah vegetation.
