Dessie

Dessie is a major city in the Amara Region of northern Ethiopia, located on the Addis Ababa–Mekelle highway in the highlands. It is the administrative centre of the Debub Wollo Zone and an important commercial hub, with a large market that serves surrounding rural communities. Dessie sits at around 2,500 m elevation, giving it a mild, temperate climate.

Kombolcha Airport (DSE IATA) is about 20 km south-west of Dessie and serves domestic flights from Addis Ababa. Ethiopian Airlines operates regular flights.

By Car / Road

Dessie is 400 km north of Addis Ababa on Highway 1 (6–7 hours by car). Buses from Addis Ababa arrive regularly at the main bus station.

Bajajs and minibuses serve the city. The central market area is walkable.
