Adi Tekelezan

Ansabā, Eritrea

Why visit Adi Tekelezan?

Adi Tekelezan is a small settlement in the Ansaba region of Eritrea, located in the dry highland zone between Keren and the Gash-Barka region to the west. The name is Tigrinya, with "Adi" meaning village or settlement. It serves as a local administrative post and market for the scattered farming and herding communities of the surrounding area. The population is predominantly Tigre-speaking, with a traditional economy based on livestock and rain-fed agriculture.

The landscape is typical of the central Eritrean highlands: rolling hills covered in acacia scrub and dry grass, interspersed with seasonal streams (khor) that flow only during the July–September rains. The best travel season is during the cool, dry months from October to February.
