Elabered
Ansabā, Eritrea
Why visit Elabered?
Elabered is a small town in the Ansaba region of central-western Eritrea, located roughly halfway between Keren and Agordat. It functions as a local administrative centre and market hub for the surrounding agricultural highlands. The population is predominantly Tigre, with some Bilen communities, and the economy revolves around livestock herding and the cultivation of sorghum, millet, and vegetables in the seasonal riverbeds.
The wider area is characterised by dry, scrub-covered hills and wide valleys. The area receives most of its rain between July and September. The cooler dry season from October to February is the most comfortable time for travel.
