Inongo is the provincial capital of Mai-Ndombe, on the eastern shore of Lake Mai-Ndombe in western DRC. The city is organized into three communes — Bonse, Mpolo, and Mpongonzoli — and had an estimated population of around 45,000 as of 2009. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Inongo, and Lingala is the widely spoken language. The local economy is based on agriculture, lake fishing, and small-scale trade. The climate is tropical monsoon, with a rainy and a dry season.
