Kwamouth

Kwamouth is a town in Mai-Ndombe province at the confluence of the Kasaï (locally the Kwa in its lower stretch) and Congo rivers, northeast of Kinshasa. It marks the endpoint of the roughly 2,150 km Kasaï River, whose mouth was first documented by Europeans during Henry Morton Stanley's 1876–77 Congo River expedition; the Kasaï is a major left-bank tributary of the Congo, with mean discharge at the confluence in the range of 8,000–11,500 m³/s. Historically the wider river system, including the Kwango tributary, was used by traders navigating the equatorial forest during the pre-colonial slave-trade era. The local economy today is based on agriculture, fishing, and small-scale river trade. The climate is tropical with a rainy and a dry season.
