Why visit?

Mai-Ndombe is a province in western DRC, one of 21 created in the 2015 nationwide repartitioning that split the former Bandundu Province into Mai-Ndombe, Kwango, and Kwilu; it was formed from the old Plateaux and Mai-Ndombe districts, with Inongo elevated to provincial capital. It covers about 127,243 km² with an estimated population of roughly 1.7 million around the time of its creation, divided into eight territories — Bolobo, Inongo, Kiri, Kutu, Kwamouth, Mushie, Oshwe, and Yumbi. It borders the Republic of the Congo to the west, Équateur and Tshuapa to the north, Kasaï to the east, and Kwilu and Kinshasa to the south. The province is named after Lake Mai-Ndombe, a vast shallow lake in the Congo Basin. The climate is tropical with abundant rainfall.
