Mushie

Mai-Ndombe, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Why visit Mushie?

Mushie is the administrative center of Mushie Territory in Mai-Ndombe province, on the northern bank of the Kasaï River at its confluence with the Fimi River, at an elevation of about 340 m. The Fimi drains Lake Mai-Ndombe — a large, shallow lake covering roughly 2,300 km² that expands to two or three times that size in the rainy season — and flows west to join the Kasaï at Mushie, making the town a strategic point in the region's river-transport network. The local economy is based on agriculture, fishing, and small-scale trade. The climate is tropical with a rainy and a dry season.
