Vel

Vel is a village in Lənkəran District in southeastern Azerbaijan, situated in the coastal lowlands between Lənkəran city and the Iranian border. The area is characterised by tea plantations, citrus orchards, and a humid subtropical climate. Vel is a small agricultural settlement typical of the Talysh region.

Summers are hot and humid (25–32°C), winters mild (3–10°C). Rainfall is highest from October to February. Spring (April–June) is the greenest and most pleasant season.

Lənkəran International Airport (LLK) is about 12 km north of Vel. A taxi costs 10–15 AZN.

By Train

Lənkəran station is 10 km north, with trains from Baku and regional destinations.

By Car / Road

Vel is 8 km south of Lənkəran on the coastal highway (R28). From Baku, drive 255 km south (3.5 hr). Marshrutkas from Lənkəran pass through regularly.

Vel is walkable. Marshrutkas along the coastal road connect to nearby villages and Lənkəran.

• Caspian Sea — The coast is about 4 km east, with beaches and lagoons.

• Beach walks — The Caspian shoreline near Vel has quiet, undeveloped beaches.

• Tea farm visits — Local tea plantations, open during harvest season (May–September).

A chaykhana in the village serves tea and simple food. Restaurants in Lənkəran serve lavangi (stuffed chicken) — the signature dish of the region.
