Why visit Hong Ngu?

Hong Ngu is a border town in northern Dong Thap province, situated on the Tien River opposite Cambodia. It serves as a commercial gateway between Vietnam and Cambodia, with a lively cross-border trade in agricultural goods, consumer products, and seafood. The town has a frontier character — busy markets, long-distance trucks, and a mix of Vietnamese and Khmer influences. Surrounding areas are rich in rice paddies and aquaculture ponds.

The climate follows the Mekong Delta monsoon pattern: dry from December to April, wet from May to November. The flood season (August-November) sees the Tien River rise significantly, affecting riverside areas. The best time to visit is during the dry season when roads are passable and temperatures are more moderate.

The town centre is compact, arranged along the riverbank and centred on the Hong Ngu Market. Outlying communes are connected by a network of canals and rural roads.
