Why visit Lai Vung?

Lai Vung is a rural district in eastern Dong Thap province, widely celebrated for its sweet and fragrant mandarin oranges (quyt Lai Vung). The district's alluvial soil and canal network create ideal conditions for citrus cultivation, and the orchards stretch across the countryside. Life in Lai Vung revolves around agriculture — rice, fruit, and freshwater aquaculture.

The climate is tropical monsoon, with a dry season from December to April and a rainy season from May to November. The district lies on the northern bank of the Tien River, and seasonal flooding affects low-lying areas. The best time to visit is during the dry season, which also coincides with the mandarin harvest (December-February).

The district town of Lai Vung is a small market centre, while the surrounding area is a patchwork of orchards, rice fields, and canals.
