Chau Thanh

Đồng Tháp, Viet Nam

Why visit Chau Thanh?

Chau Thanh is a rural district in Dong Thap province, located along the southern bank of the Tien River. The district is predominantly agricultural, with rice paddies, fruit orchards, and aquaculture ponds covering most of the land. Its proximity to both Cao Lanh (the provincial capital) and Sa Dec makes it a convenient base for exploring central Dong Thap while enjoying a quieter, more traditional Mekong Delta setting.

The climate is tropical monsoon, with a dry season from December to April and a rainy season from May to November. The flood season (August-November) brings water from the Tien River into the canals and fields, creating the classic Mekong Delta flooded landscape.

The district centre is the small town of Chau Thanh, which has a market, a few basic services, and easy access to the river. The surrounding countryside consists of villages strung along canals and country lanes.
