Vinh Cuu

Vinh Cuu is a rural district in northern Đồng Nai province, situated along the Đồng Nai River about 60 km north of Bien Hoa. The district is known for its natural landscapes, including the Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve, which forms part of the larger Đồng Nai River corridor conservation area. Much of the district is covered in forest and agricultural land.

Vinh Cuu is one of the less developed districts in Đồng Nai, characterised by traditional farming communities, rubber plantations, and forested hills. The district is increasingly recognised as an ecotourism destination, offering a quiet escape from the industrial centres of southern Đồng Nai.

The climate is tropical monsoon. The dry season runs November–April and the rainy season May–October. Temperatures range from 24–34°C.

By Plane

The nearest airport is Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City, approximately 80 km southwest. A taxi costs 600,000–800,000 dong and takes 1.5–2 hours.

By Car / Road

Vinh Cuu is accessible via National Highway 20 and provincial roads. Driving from Bien Hoa takes about 1.5 hours. Local buses connect Vinh Cuu to Bien Hoa's bus station. The final approach involves winding roads through forested terrain.

Public transport within Vinh Cuu is limited. The best way to explore the district is by motorbike or hired car with a driver. The nature reserve and river areas are accessible by boat. Walking trails exist within the reserve.

Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve — A protected area of lowland tropical forest along the Đồng Nai River, home to diverse wildlife including gibbons, deer, and numerous bird species.

Đồng Nai River — The wide river forms the district's western boundary, with scenic views, sandbars, and opportunities for boat trips.

Tri An Lake — A large reservoir on the Đồng Nai River bordering Vinh Cuu, popular for fishing and boat excursions.

Traditional Rubber Plantations — Working rubber estates where the tapping process can be observed in the early morning.

Trek through the Vinh Cuu Nature Reserve on guided walking tours. Take a boat trip on the Đồng Nai River to explore the riverine landscape. Birdwatch in the reserve, which hosts a rich variety of both resident and migratory species. Visit local villages to learn about traditional farming and rubber cultivation.

Cá linh kho tộ — A small river fish braised in a clay pot with caramelised sauce, a local speciality along the Đồng Nai River.

Canh chua cá — Sour soup made with river fish, tamarind, and vegetables, served at family-run eateries.

Gà thả vườn — Free-range chicken, a popular farm-to-table dish in the district's countryside restaurants.

Fresh coconut water and sugarcane juice are available in the district centre. Vietnamese green tea is commonly served in local homes and small eateries. Rượu gạo (rice wine) is produced locally and available at village markets.

• Budget: Simple homestays and guesthouses (nhà nghỉ) in the district centre offer basic rooms from 150,000–250,000 dong.
• Mid-range: Eco-lodges near the nature reserve offer comfortable stays from 400,000–700,000 dong.
• Upscale: Limited upscale options; Tri An Lake area has a few resort-style accommodations from 800,000 dong.

Local products include rubber-based items, forest honey, and wild mushrooms. The district's markets sell fresh river fish, fruits, and traditional snacks. Handicrafts from local ethnic communities are occasionally available.

Cat Tien National Park (80 km, 2 hr) — One of Vietnam's most important national parks with excellent wildlife viewing and jungle treks.

Bien Hoa (60 km, 1.5 hr) — The provincial capital with cultural sites, markets, and the ceramics village.

Đà Lạt (180 km, 4 hr) — Hill station in the Central Highlands with cool weather and scenic beauty.

Tri An Lake (20 km, 30 min) — Large reservoir with boating, fishing, and lakeside relaxation.
