Why visit Krong Bong?

Krong Bong (also spelled Krông Bông) is a district in southern Đắk Lắk Province, situated about 50 km south of Buon Ma Thuot. The district lies in the foothills of the Central Highlands and is known for its coffee plantations, scenic mountain landscapes, and ethnic minority communities including the Ê-đê and M'Nông peoples. The Krông Bông River flows through the district, supporting rice cultivation in the valleys.

The climate features a dry season from November to April and a rainy season from May to October. The higher elevation provides cooler temperatures than the lowlands.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest airport is Buon Ma Thuot Airport (BMV IATA), about 60 km north. A taxi takes roughly one hour.

By Car / Road

Krong Bong is about 50 km south of Buon Ma Thuot. The district is connected by local roads that branch off National Route 27. Buses run from Buon Ma Thuot to the district centre.

The district centre is compact. A motorbike is essential for reaching outlying villages and viewpoints.

What are the things to do?

  • Coffee plantations — Vast coffee estates cover the hillsides, especially beautiful during the harvest season (October to January).
  • Mountain scenery — The district offers panoramic views of the Central Highlands from several vantage points.
  • Ethnic minority villages — Traditional Ê-đê and M'Nông longhouses can be found in the rural areas.

Small eateries in Krong Bong town serve phở, bún bò Huế, and cơm bình dân. The market area has several food stalls open from early morning, selling bánh cuốn, xôi, and freshly made noodle soups for 15,000–35,000 dong.

Where to drink?

Coffee is excellent and widely available. This is prime coffee-growing country.

Krong Bong has a few basic guesthouses (nhà nghỉ) catering to local travellers and traders, with rooms from 150,000–250,000 dong. Most visitors stay in Buon Ma Thuot, 50 km north, or in Lak town near the lake.

Fresh coffee beans, locally grown avocados, and other agricultural products are available at the district market.
