Krong Nang

Krong Nang (also spelled Krông Năng) is a district in northern Đắk Lắk Province, located about 50 km north of Buon Ma Thuot. The district is known for its coffee and fruit production, particularly durian, avocado, and passionfruit, thriving on the fertile basalt soils of the Central Highlands. Krong Nang has a relaxed rural character and is off the main tourist trail.

The climate follows the Central Highlands pattern: a dry season from November to April and a rainy season from May to October.

The nearest airport is Buon Ma Thuot Airport (BMV IATA), about 60 km south. A taxi takes roughly one hour.

By Car / Road

Krong Nang is about 50 km north of Buon Ma Thuot, connected by provincial roads that branch off National Route 14. Buses run from Buon Ma Thuot to the district.

The district centre is walkable. A motorbike is essential for reaching the surrounding farm areas.

• Coffee and fruit plantations — The district is known for its durian, avocado, and passionfruit orchards alongside coffee estates.
• Rural scenery — Rolling hills covered with plantations and patches of natural forest.

Explore the farm roads by motorbike. Visit during the durian season (June to August) to taste fresh fruit.

Local eateries serve phở, cơm bình dân, and bún. Being fruit-growing country, the area has abundant fresh tropical fruit — durian, avocado, passionfruit, and pomelo appear in season at market stalls and roadside vendors. Fresh fruit smoothies are a refreshing treat.

Coffee is excellent and widely available. Fresh fruit juices are a treat, especially during harvest season.

A few basic guesthouses (nhà nghỉ) in the district centre offer simple accommodation from 150,000 dong. Most travellers visit as a day trip from Buon Ma Thuot, 50 km south.

Fresh durian, avocados, passionfruit, and coffee beans are available at the district market and from roadside stalls.
