Ea Kar

Ea Kar is a district in southern Đắk Lắk Province, situated about 70 km south of Buon Ma Thuot. The district lies along the route from Buon Ma Thuot to Da Lat and is surrounded by coffee, tea, and rubber plantations. It serves as a gateway to Lak Lake and the southern reaches of the province, with a relaxed rural character and scenic mountain views.

The climate features a dry season from November to April and a rainy season from May to October. The slightly higher elevation provides cool mornings and evenings.

By Plane

The nearest airport is Buon Ma Thuot Airport (BMV IATA), about 80 km north. A taxi takes roughly 1.5 hours.

By Car / Road

Ea Kar is on National Route 27, the main road connecting Buon Ma Thuot to Da Lat, about 70 km south of Buon Ma Thuot and 130 km north of Da Lat. Buses between the two cities pass through the district.

The town centre is walkable. Motorbikes are available for hire in Buon Ma Thuot and are the best way to explore the surrounding countryside.

• Coffee and tea plantations — The hills around Ea Kar are planted with coffee and tea, creating a picturesque landscape of green terraced slopes.
• Scenic mountain views — The route south towards Da Lat passes through winding mountain roads with panoramic views of the Central Highlands.

Take a motorbike ride along the scenic route to Da Lat. Visit local coffee and tea processing facilities. The area is good for cycling and hiking.

Small eateries in Ea Kar town serve phở, bún, and cơm bình dân. Being in a fertile agricultural area, the restaurants make good use of fresh local vegetables and herbs. Roadside stalls along National Route 27 sell fresh fruit and snacks for the journey.

Vietnamese coffee is widely available. The region also produces tea.

Basic guesthouses (nhà nghỉ) along the main road offer simple accommodation from 150,000–250,000 dong. Most visitors pass through on the way to Da Lat or Lak Lake rather than staying overnight.

Local coffee, tea, and cashews are available at the district market.

• Buon Ma Thuot — 70 km north. The provincial capital with Buon Ma Thuot Airport and coffee culture.
