Kaabong

Northern, Uganda

Why visit Kaabong?

Kaabong is a remote town in the far north-east of Uganda, serving as the administrative headquarters of Kaabong District. It is one of the most isolated settlements in the country, located in the rugged Karamoja region near the borders with Kenya and South Sudan. The area is semi-arid and inhabited by the Karamojong people, who practise traditional pastoralism centred on cattle herding.

The town is a crucial stop for travellers heading to or from Kidepo Valley National Park, which lies about 40 km to the east. Kaabong has a raw, frontier atmosphere with basic facilities.
