Gulu

Northern, Uganda

Why visit Gulu?

Gulu is the largest city in northern Uganda and the commercial and cultural centre of the Acholi region. Located approximately 330 km north of Kampala, Gulu was at the epicentre of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) conflict for two decades and has since undergone a remarkable reconstruction and growth phase. Today it is a vibrant, rapidly developing city with a youthful population, lively markets, and a growing arts and music scene.

The Acholi people are the dominant ethnic group, and Luo (Acholi) is the primary local language alongside English. Gulu is increasingly recognised as a hub for humanitarian organisations, research, and tourism to northern Uganda's national parks.
